NSW GOVERNMENT FAILS THE STATE’S MOTORCYCLISTS ONCE AGAIN
21 July 2010

With the arrival of new mobile speed cameras, and the RTA’s proposed new 4km/h tolerance limit for all speeding offences, it is time to take an objective look at the facts the speed-camera-revenue-addicted Keneally government is not telling us about motorcycles.

MEDIA RELEASE

22 June 2010

The Motorcycle Council of NSW (MCC of NSW) has today described the planned increases in motorcycle CTP premiums from July 1st, as further evidence of the failure of Governments to recognise motorcycles as a unique and independent road user group.

Whilst the MCC of NSW understands that changes to the old CTP system were necessary, and even worked with the Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) on these changes, the MCC of NSW has not been provided with any evidence that those drivers or riders causing CTP claims, can justify such extreme increases in prices in some classifications.

Solid result for motorcycle sales in 2009

Jan 11, 2010

Official figures released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) show that 115,981 motorcycles, scooters and all-terrain vehicles were sold last year – a decrease of 13.6 per cent (18,298 units) over 2008.

“Given the circumstances, this is a very solid result,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

“The market has come off a very high base over the previous year, so the industry has certainly stood up well to the economic challenges,” he said.

“In fact, this is the fourth highest annual sales result on record and was achieved in tough economic circumstances,” Mr McKellar said.

“Some brands actually increased sales and deserve congratulations for that,” he said.

Corners For Kids Motorcycle Rally (C4K)

In March motorcycle riders from across the financial services industry celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Corners for Kids Motorcycle Rally (C4K) in Tasmania to support the Inspire Foundation's ReachOut! program which aims to prevent youth suicide by using the internet to reach young people at risk.

C4K's Riding the Roads of Tassie

This year's rally was again supported by the Investment and Financial Services Association (IFSA) along with a generous [$5,000.00] corporate donation from OAMPS Insurance brokers.

Thirty-four riders and support crew from as far as Brisbane, Armidale, Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong gathered at Port Melbourne on 7th March, before heading over Bass Strait to Tasmania where we enjoyed a glorious week of great weather and riding. The week-long ride took the riders through some of the finest motorcycling roads in Australia - from Devonport to Bicheno, Hobart to Strahan and Launceston while also passing through some fabulous towns like Scottsdale, St Helens, Richmond, Sheffield and Zeehan, to name just a few.

The riders celebrated another great ride with more than $52,000 raised, and still counting, toward our $75,000 target which would see us reach a total of $500,000 raised since 2000.

The organisers of C4K would like to thank some wonderful people at Bicheno, the Mayor, Bertrand Cadart and Rose's Cafe for organising a cake in the shape of a motorcycle to mark our tenth anniversary. Thanks also to Darren Drew at Tactical Directions for the design and supply of the fantastic C4K 2009 T-Shirts, and those who have contributed to the ride with local knowledge on Tasmanian roads, use of support vehicle, trailer, and other contributors, too many to name.

C4K A Job Well Done

ReachOut (www.reachout.com.au) allows young Australians struggling with depression to connect with each other in a safe, professionally moderated and anonymous environment. ReachOut provides nationwide access via its internet site and since inception in 1997 has been extremely successful in contributing to a reduction in the youth suicide rate in Australia.
