2004 Club Notice

Motorcycle Awareness Week

Your Council this year has adopted the theme “Let’s Torque” to raise awareness of motorcycles, and motorcycling to the general public, perhaps even encouraging their use as a fun and cost effective alternative to other forms of transport.

We have arranged for banners to be displayed on the Linley Point Pedestrian Bridge at Linley Point, the Pedestrian Bridge over the Princes Highway at Arncliffe, the Coleman Street over the M4 Motorway at Mays Hill and the Kent Road bridge over the M4 at Orchard Hills form the 11th October – 24th October inclusive. The banners advise the general public that this week has been dedicated as Motorcycle Awareness Week.

A considerable number of events are being planned in an effort to raise awareness of motorcycles and motorcyclists during this period, which will include:

·Motorcycle Display and Show and Shine on Pyrmont Bridge – Saturday October 16th
·Breakfast Bar-B-Que at Loftus Park (near Sutherland) – Sunday October 17th (7 am to 10 am, get breakfast then retire to a TV for MotoGP)
·Ride to Work Day – Wednesday October 20th
. Launch of Young Rider Project “Geared Up” at Mt White Saturday 25th 12pm
. Pink Ribbon Ride Sunday 26th . See website

The purpose on this note is to ask you to make your members aware of the above dates, and to get them to enter them in their diaries as “must do’s”.

For the display on Pyrmont Bridge, our aim is to display 6 – 8 bikes from as many clubs as possible, with their owners encouraged to talk to members of the public about their bikes and lifestyle. Last year we had a very good cross section of the motorcycle community represented, from Scooters and Sports Bikes to Tourers and Sidecars, and this year is looking even better. Service bikes and riders will also be represented, such as the NRMA, Posties, Police, Ambulance Paramedics and others.

Display bikes must be in location prior to 9 am and remain until after 4.30 pm
