Evolution

Harleys for Helicopters (H4H) evolved in September of 2001. It is the brainchild of David Golledge who had a vision to get a few mates together on their Harleys and go for a ride to raise some money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. This initial concept developed beyond expectations in a very short period of time, and is now one of the most productive, both financially and promotionally of all of the support groups for the service in Newcastle and New England regions.

Status

H4H is an authorized Support Group for the Hunter Region SLSA Helicopter Rescue Service Pty Ltd. H4H is the only support group for the service that raises funds state wide annually. The Group has raised an amount of funds to date in excess of $600,000.00 for this much needed charity. Harleys for Helicopters encourages all riders and all makes of motorcycles to join in all rides and events.

Goals

The Harleys for Helicopters Support group has a major fund raising event in October each year, and this is called the Turkey Run. The Turkey Run was named in memory of Sandy Philp, who passed away on the 18th of March 2005 after a battle with Asbestosis. As Sandy was born in Uralla it was decided that there should be a memorial ride each year from Newcastle where Sandy lived to Uralla where he was born. The Turkey Run attracts 300 plus riders and pillion passengers from all over NSW and interstate to be part of this event. Heavy Duty and Live to Ride are 2 national bike magazines that cover this event and post stories each year on the success the ride continues to have.

The Turkey run brings an estimated $150,000 into the Town of Uralla over the Friday afternoon through to Sunday morning event. It is envisaged that this event will become one of the great events over the ensuing years that people will want to attend each year.

The Turkey Run has the following events as part of the weekend in Uralla;

Harleys for Helicopters are seeking sponsorship for the Turkey Run in 2009, and below is a list of sponsoring categories;
